Sole and Heel Flares

Types and Applications.

Sole and Heel Flares

Flares are widened heel or sole bases added to shoes.

Often lateral sole wedges are made when the foot does not have sufficient room in the shoe on the lateral side. Lack of room causes the foot to extend over the insole and over the outsole.

(Note: wedging the shoe will not solve this problem because an outflared foot is inside a shoe that is improperly fit.)

If an outflare shoe cannot be use to accommodate the outflared foot, the problem may be solved by using a lateral flare on the shoe. the shoe is laterally extended to accommodate the foot.

Flared Heel:

a flared heel adds leverage to control the heel. it can be placed on either the medial or lateral side.
