Incidence rate of running injury is common, but the number vary
- 18.2% to 95%
- 6.8-59 injuries per 1000 hours of running
- The rate is high in the modern cities
Most Common Injuries:
Shin Splints
- During landing and propulsion:
Repetitive contraction of post. Tib, soleus, flexor digitorum logus generate excessive stress on tibia, causing inflammation
- Insufficient capacity of bone remodeling:
Repetitive and persistent stress on tibia from muscle contraction and ground reaction force during landing
Tendinopathy
- Excessive loading has been considered to be the main stimulus
- Repetitive loading beyond tolerance causes tissue degeneration
-
Achilles teninopathy
Excessive loading from calf muscles predispose the development
-
Patellar tendon
High and excessive eccentric loads of qua. Femoris
-
Plantar Fasciitis
Degeneration of plantar fascia, causing pain during weight bearing, failing to support the loads
With ageing or prolonged repetitive overloading, the ability of absorption of plantar fascia and fat might decrease
Patellofemoral Syndrome
